Superintendent's Message

August 5, 2016

Dear Mendota Unified School District Community,

It is with great pleasure that I welcome you back to another great year in Mendota Unified. I hope that all of you had an enjoyable and restful summer break. It is truly an honor to work in a district that puts children first.

I want to take a moment to thank the wonderful staff that worked throughout the summer to ensure that our grounds and facilities were kept up and ready for the start of the school year. I especially want to thank the staff involved in the extraordinary effort of moving the entire Washington staff and equipment to the McCabe campus. This was not a small task. It took great planning, coordination, and the efforts of a very supportive staff to complete this project.

I also want to take a moment to welcome our new staff members to the team and to inform you of other staff changes for this new school year. This year, we hired 1 School Psychologist, 16 new teachers, 1 health aide, and 9 new classified staff. Additionally, Mr. Travis Kirby will be Principal of Mendota High, Mr. Randy Jarrett will be Principal of Mendota Jr. High, Mrs. Juanita Villar will be Principal of Mendota Elementary, and Mrs. Rhyanna Cervantes will be Principal of Washington Elementary. Please help me welcome our new staff and help encourage and support the new administrative team. I am confident that our entire MUSD team will perform exceptionally well this year.

Instructionally, we will continue to provide the best educational opportunities for our students. Our emphasis on integrating technology, writing, and highly effective instructional strategies will continue to drive planning and professional learning opportunities for our staff. Additionally, we will continue to work on ways to improve our college and career pathways by reaching out to business partners, community colleges, and universities.

We will also continue with our modernization projects to ensure that our students are provided safe, clean, and modern facilities. This year Washington Elementary will undergo a major transformation. The Washington Project is expected to be completed by June 2017. This year will also see our first full scale solar project. The solar project is expected to be completed by March 2017.

In closing, I want to thank you for your continued support and to remind you to get involved in your child’s education. Our school sites provide multiple opportunities for parent involvement. Please reach out to your son’s or daughter’s school to get information. Let’s have a great 2016-17 school year!
