Superintendent's Message

Dear Mendota Unified Community,

Welcome to the start of the 2019-2020 school year! I hope that you are well-rested and rejuvenated and that you are ready for another exciting school year. This school year brings new opportunities for us to learn and grow together. Our students’ first day back to school is August 12, 2019.

I want to take a moment to welcome all new staff to our team. I also want to thank staff who worked throughout the summer months to ensure that our facilities and programs are ready for the start of this new school year. Mr. Robert Gonzales and his staff have done a great job of ensuring our facilities are ready for another successful school year. Mr. Ren Watkins, in the IT Department, has worked diligently to ensure our district network is running at optimum capacity. District Office Staff have been hard at work preparing for this upcoming year. When you see these team members please take a moment to thank them for their hard work and dedication.

We will resume our practice of putting kids first by focusing on increasing academic achievement and providing various opportunities for student involvement. Additionally, we will continue to make safety our top priority. Staff will also be provided a variety of professional learning opportunities throughout the school year. Special emphasis will be placed on social and emotional learning (SEL), which focuses on responsible decision making, resiliency, developing healthy relationships, and empathy.

This year concludes the modernization of the Mendota Unified Preschool Center. MUSD Preschool students and staff will enjoy a great school year in a revitalized and beautiful center. We will continue with phase II of the McCabe Elementary School revitalization and modernization project.  Furthermore, we will be adding a beautiful and much needed shade structure to the Mendota Jr. High School amphitheater. Additionally, we will be adding modular classrooms to Mendota Jr. High School and Mendota High School to accommodate student growth. Thank you staff for your patience and for working with us as we continue to make our district a beautiful place to work and the foundation of our community.

To conclude, I want to thank you for putting our kids first and for giving them your very best.  Let us continue to work together, support one another, and to keep each other focused on our mission of building scholars, leaders, and champions. Together we will continue to make Mendota Unified a great place for kids.

Sincerely,

Paul Lopez, Ed. D.
